Headlight Restoration Services

What is headlight restoration?

When you’re driving at night, what do you see in the headlights of the cars coming toward you? If it looks like a cloudy mess, then your headlights are probably foggy and need to be restored. Headlight restoration is a process that removes haze and restores clarity to your headlights so they look as good as new.

What causes foggy headlights?

Foggy or cloudy headlights are caused by a buildup of dirt, dust, and other contaminants on the surface of your headlight lens. The buildup reduces light output from your headlamps and can even cause safety issues if it blocks too much light.

Headlight restoration is the process of restoring your headlights to their original shine.

Your headlights are one of the most important safety features in your car. They help you see better in low-light conditions, which is extremely important for nighttime driving. But over time, the plastic lenses on your headlights can become foggy or yellowed, which makes it harder to see at night. Headlight restoration can help restore your headlights to their original condition so that you can once again drive safely at night.

Squeegee's Ultimate Headlight Restoration Process:

We don’t utilize a generic headlight repair kit that you get at your local auto parts store. To provide the greatest results, we go through an extensive 8-step sanding, compounding, polishing, and protecting process.

1

Start sanding the headlight with 800 grit
The first round of sanding is where the oxidization is removed. There will be a lot of slurries that come off.

2

Sand headlight with 1,000 grit
As we move up the process, we remove less oxidization. The focus now is to refine the sanding marks.

3

Sand headlight with 1,500-grit
The clarity of the headlights is beginning to change noticeably.

4

Sand headlights with 2,500 grit

5

Sand headlights with 3,000 grit
This is the final sanding phase. The headlight appears to be a lot more clear.

6

Compound the headlights
Using a cutting disc, compound, and machine polisher, we'll remove the sanding marks.

7

Polishing the Headlights
Finally, we'll enhance the cutting phase to bring out maximum clarity with a light polish and polishing pad.

8

Protect the headlights
For protection, we'll apply a 1-year ceramic coating. This will offer a dependable defense.

FAQs: Headlight Restoration

How long does this service take?

Depending on the size and condition, it can take 45 to 90 minutes to finish. It will take more time if the condition is severe.

Do you come to me?

Yes, we’re a fully-contained mobile detailing unit. We can perform the wash at your home or apartment. All we need is a water spout and electrical outlet to perform the detail on your car.

We also service all of Portland, Lake Oswego, Bethany, Beaverton, Tigard, Hillsboro, and Vancouver, WA areas. We can even expand to further areas, so please don’t hesitate to ask.

Why does my lens deteriorate?

Like your paint, your headlights are covered in a clear coat. The clear coat begins to disintegrate as the sun beats down on it week after week. Eventually, what was the clear coat turns into an ugly yellow layer of gunk.

Your headlights are exposed to the most heat in Houston, and if you park your car in the sun for most of the day, it will exacerbate the damage. Because of the material of the headlights, the clear coat on them doesn’t last nearly as much as the clear coat on the paint.

Can you restore any headlights?

Like many things, once the headlights get to a certain point, there is only so much we can do to return them to a like-new state. Your headlights can look better after we’re done, but there can also be permanent damage.

How do I keep my headlights looking good?

It can be a bit tricky. Typical waxes and sealants will only protect your car for so long. If you park your car in the shade most of the time, then they’ll last longer than if you park outside in the sun most of the time.

Every 3 to 5 weeks, you can wax or seal your headlights. This can take less than 15 minutes to do.
