Portland Overspray Removal

You've just bought a new car and you're excited to drive it around. You get in and start the engine, but then you notice something… There's a white film on your windshield. You look down at the paint job of your car, and it looks like it has been covered in powdered sugar!

What is this stuff? And how do I get rid of it?

This is called overspray. It's basically paint that has been sprayed onto something but hasn't dried completely yet. Overspray happens when someone paints something that isn't horizontal—like a wall or a fence—and doesn't use a drop cloth or masking tape to protect other surfaces from getting painted over. When they finish painting, they walk away thinking they've done a great job—but there's still some paint on the wall! And if it gets wet later on down the road (like from rain), that leftover paint could easily get transferred onto another surface such as your windshield or car door.

Don't cause your paint more harm than good.

Nothing except swirls and scratches will be added to your paint by vigorously scratching and rubbing it with a towel, plastic razor, or brush.

This is something that keeps happening. As a result, your car will require extra maintenance because there are now two issues to take care of:

The overspray removal comes first. Sometimes it's simple, and other times it's quite challenging. Depending on the paint's composition and the surface it is applied to

Even with safe removal techniques, it frequently results in slight paint marring.

As a result, the marring will need to be removed using a light polish.

If you actively damage your paint, though, we'll need to apply a more harsh paint repair technique to get rid of the severe swirls and scratches you left behind.

FAQs: Overspray Removal

Do you come to me?

Yes, we’re a fully-contained mobile detailing unit. We can perform the wash at your home or apartment. All we need is a water spout and electrical outlet to perform the detail on your car.

We also service all of Portland, Lake Oswego, Bethany, Beaverton, Tigard, Hillsboro, and Vancouver, WA areas. We can even expand to further areas, so please don’t hesitate to ask.

Can paint overspray harm my car?

Using the right techniques, we have found that when we conduct a Premium Wash on a car with overspray that has been resting on the paint for a while, we can still get it off. No lasting or irreversible harm has been observed.

Is it possible to remove overspray from plastic, wheels, and glass?

Yes, generally speaking. We are able to clean it off of glass, wheels, fenders, trim, etc., but this does not guarantee that all of the oversprays will be completely removed. We will continue to follow our detailing process. However, some places and surfaces will be more challenging than others, especially in light of the paint type that accidentally landed on your car.

The paint is still there despite my efforts to clay it. What's next?

A clay bar treatment is an excellent method to remove impurities from the paint's top layer. We always perform it as part of the Wash and Wax service. Overspray, on the other hand, will require a separate "pull-off." Even if you clay for longer, you won't get better results. It's a highly time-consuming and laborious process.

Can the overspray be removed using a rubbing compound?

It won't do much, but it might be able to get rid of a minor portion of the overspray that has landed on your car. You can try to massage the substance into the region with a towel, but you won't notice much difference.
